Issue/Question
Pen not writing in same place on the screen that I am touching
Pen is not calibrated to monitor
Environment
- Classroom with SMART Podium or SMART Board/Display
- Pen
Cause
- Alignment off
- Screen Scaling not 100%
- The computer display mode is set to Extended mode and the wrong display is selected for orientation
Resolution
When a computer connected to a SMART Podium display is set to Extended mode, the pen can only be used when using Presenter View in PowerPoint to write on the slide. The pen orientation typically will default to the extended display. The pen will need to be oriented to the SMART podium display each time the display is set to Extended mode. The computer will reset to Duplicate mode when the user logs off. If you want to use the pen to annotate over other documents, web pages or applications you must be in Duplicate mode.
When a computer connected to a SMART Board/Display is set to Extended mode you may need to re-orient the pen to the SMART Board/Display. If the writing shows up on the monitor that sits on the instructor desk then the orientation will need to be switched to the SMART Board/Display. See steps for Align the pen (Extended Display mode).
Align the pen (Duplicate Display mode)
- Select in the System Tray next to Date and Time
- Right-click on the Smart icon
- Select Orient
- Follow directions on the screen
Align the pen (Extended Display mode)
- Select in the System Tray next to Date and Time
- Right-click on the Smart icon
- Select Orient
- If you do not see the target on the SMART display, press the space bar on the keyboard to change target to the SMART display
- Follow directions on the screen
Reset Screen Scaling
- Right-click on desktop
- Click Display settings
- Under Scale and layout
- Set to 100% (Recommended)
