KnowBe4 Security Awareness Training

Issue/Question

Is this a phishing email or an actual training?

Environment

Cause

Faculty and staff at the University of South Dakota must be aware of the rapidly increasing threat of cyber-crime. In order to increase awareness and minimize exposure, USD will continue to provide mandatory, online training from KnowBe4

Resolution

  1. KnowBe4 is a legitimate Cyber Security Awareness Training sent on behalf of the University
  2. KnowBe4 email messages will come from USD - Security Team <security@usd.edu>
  3. Email subject:
    • Mandatory Annual Security Awareness Training
      • This message is sent from HR to announce training
    • Annual Cybersecurity Awareness Training
      • This message is sent when training has been assigned
    • Please complete your assigned training
      • 5 days prior to the deadline, all employees who have not yet completed the training will receive this message
    • You've completed your training
      • When you complete the online training you will receive this message
  4. Access Online Training
    • Training usually takes about 20- 30 minutes to complete
    • It will automatically save your progress, so you don’t have to complete the entire module in one sitting
    • Employees will have 2 weeks to complete the training
    • The only software requirement is a modern browser

Note: Employees can complete the training after the due date and will receive an email reminder from security@usd.edu every 5 days until it is completed
