Curriculum Practical Training (CPT) Request

Overview

The Curricular Practical Training (CPT) is temporary employment authorization that allows F-1 students to gain practical skills in their field of study (major/graduate program) before their program completion date. In order to apply for CPT, F1 students must make sure the the following criteria are met:

  • The off-campus training must be directly related to their field of study (major/graduate program) and an integral part of their established curriculum.
  • F1 students should have been enrolled full time for at least one academic year/two semesters (not including summer) at their current educational level (undergrad or graduate) before applying for CPT.
  • Students must maintain their F1 status.
