Scantron Test Drop-off

Overview

The USD Testing Center has a Scantron Scanner that allows faculty to receive results and statistical data quickly and accurately from multiple choice exams.  Following the guidelines below will produce the most accurate reporting and quickest turn around possible. 

Use the Scantron Drop-off button on this page when dropping off scantron tests to be graded at the Testing Center.

Step 1: Administer Scantron Exams

  • Purchase of forms
    • It is up to each Department how this is to be handled. Either the department pays for the forms or the students supply their own forms. 
  • All forms must be the same form number and side (A or B) as used for the grading key.  
  • Form No. 95679 is the only form used at USD

Step 2: Prepare for Scanning Services

  • Create a key. Must include:
    • Scoring and Printing Options for incorrect answers, choose one option.
    • Answer Key Info. 
      • Item Count - Number of Questions, must be a 3-digit number (ie. 025)
      • Bonus questions should not be included in the item count and will need to be hand-graded by faculty after Scantron grading.
    • Name:  Instructor
    • Subject- Course Name and Number
    • Period
    • Date
  • Organize Student Answer Sheets
    • If using more than one key, student exams must be placed with the correct key.
    • Place in interoffice envelopes or folders to keep organized.

Step 3: Scanning Services

  • Drop Off in person at the USD Testing Center, located in Commons 107 (Must enter the Commons via the North Plum St. entrance or the entrance to the Commons directly across from the University Continuing Ed (UCE) building). Drop off available Mon-Fri 8 a.m.- 4 p.m.
  • Complete the digital Scantron drop-off form located at the front desk.  Confirmation email will be sent to the instructor email provided.

Step 4: Access Exam Results

  • Results will be sent to the instructor email address provided on the drop-off form.

Step 5: Pick up Student Answer Sheets

  • Pick Up already scanned exams in person at the USD Testing Center, located in Commons 107 (Must enter the Commons via the North Plum St. entrance or the entrance to the Commons directly across from the University Continuing Ed (UCE) building). Pickup is available Mon-Fri 8 a.m.- 5 p.m.
  • Confirmation email will be sent to the instructor email provided at drop-off.

Mid-Term and Final Exams

Please bring any Scantrons needing to be processed as soon as possible to avoid a large influx during mid-terms and finals, as this is a busy time for the Testing Center. There is no cost to have tests graded. 

The academic department or student must provide the multiple-choice test forms.  Form No. 95679 is the only form used at USD.
