Assistive/Adaptive Technology

Overview

Assistive and adaptive technology and support is available through the Office of Accessibility. The office provides and supports major screen readers, speech-to-text software, text-to-speech software/hardware, adaptive keyboards, and real-time captioning services, sign language interpreters, peer note takers, exam readers, and assistive technology software and hardware support for students.

Benefits

The resources and support provide equitable access to educational resources and opportunities, enabling students to participate, learn, and succeed alongside their peers more fully. To request assistance, please email the Office of Accessibility at accessibility@usd.edu to schedule an appointment with an Assistive Technology Specialist. 

Target Completion Date

It typically takes 2-5 days for a student to be assigned their assistive technology and receive training and support from the Assistive Technology Specialist through the Office of Accessibility.

Available To

Assistive and adaptive technology and related support is available to all students registered with the Office of Accessibility.

Cost

Free. There is no cost to students for the technology and the support services.

Policies

Students must register with the Office of Accessibility and renew their assistive technology request every semester. Device licenses and hardware are issued one semester at a time.
