Overview
The USD Ambassador Scholars program offers an opportunity for passionate and engaged students to earn scholarship funds while representing USD’s campus community. Ambassador Scholars will serve as influential voices for USD, playing an important role in promoting and supporting USD’s campus culture, unique programs and student opportunities. Ambassador Scholars will foster engagement with prospective students and their families through campus visit events, tours, marketing initiatives and ongoing, active engagement on social media platforms. This opportunity allows Ambassador Scholars to develop leadership skills, build professional networks and contribute to the success of our campus community, all while earning a scholarship award.
Ambassador Scholars will have several responsibilities within the Office of Admissions, University Marketing, Gallagher International Center and Charlie’s Bookstore & Fan Shop. Duties of the Ambassador Scholars program include:
- Campus/Institutional Event Support:
- Assist in organizing and hosting university events, such as Admitted Students Days, open houses, Unite for USD, Move-In Day, State of the University and ongoing campus-wide events like ribbon cuttings, press conferences, etc.
- Attend select university events to help promote engagement.
- Welcome and engage with prospective students and their families, providing insights into campus life, academic programs, and extracurricular opportunities.
- Lead campus tours for individual visitors, groups, and special events, offering personalized and informative experiences. Ambassador Scholars must provide at least 1 tour per week each semester.
- Share personal anecdotes, experiences, and insights to enhance the tour experience and highlight unique aspects of USD.
- Work with the marketing/social media content team to help develop promotional materials, content, and campaigns that appeal to prospective students.
- Serve as a brand ambassador by sharing your experiences and insights through different forms of written, social and video content to ultimately promote USD events and engage with prospective students and followers.
- Contribute creative ideas and perspectives to enhance the Yote Life brand.
- Assist with event execution; set-up and tear down of equipment, capturing photo and video content, etc.
- Serve as a positive and enthusiastic representative of the university.
- Attend training sessions, meetings and workshops to enhance your knowledge of the university and improve your skills as an Ambassador Scholar.
- Collaborate with fellow Ambassador Scholars and university staff to coordinate events, share best practices and contribute to the success of the program.
The amount of participation in each duty listed above may vary. The time commitment and overall responsibilities of Ambassador Scholars will align with the value of the scholarship awarded.
Scholarship Eligibility & Requirements:
- Undergraduate, degree-seeking students enrolled full-time (12+ credits/semester) on the main campus in Vermillion.
- Maintain a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA as stipulated by the scholarship criteria/policy.
- Fulfill all Ambassador Scholar duties and responsibilities outlined in the scholarship program description.
- Actively participate in ongoing training, meetings and events as required by the program.
- Adhere to university policies, guidelines and codes of conduct.
