Video Request

The USD Marketing Communications & University Relations Department staffs an in-house video team that includes cinematographers, directors, producers, and writers. Our team is dedicated to creating video content that promotes and aligns with the strategic goals of the university.  

WHAT WE COVER:   

• Institutional Branding Content:    

• USD campaign commercials focused on recruitment or reputation 

• Priority institutional videos for USD leadership presentations   

• Event Coverage:    

• Grand openings or ribbon cuttings across campus    

• Annual or high-level institutional events, such as the State of the University address, graduation, Unite for USD, Dakota Days (main events)   

• Institutional stories that are considered newsworthy and visual 

• Major student, faculty, or department features – these are often award or recognition type announcements or research related stories 

• New program, scholarship, departmental offerings 

WHAT WE DON’T COVER   

Due to limited bandwidth within our video team, there are a variety of situations we are typically unable to support with our lead video team. However, you are welcome to make the request, and we will make our best effort to staff it with a video interns or suggest a contracted freelance photographer.    

• Event Coverage:    

• Student or departmental events that would not be considered an annual or high-level institutional event.   

• Ex: Departmental dinners, awards, etc.

• By submitting a request form, our team can quickly review your request and respond with questions, confirmations or recommendations for alternative solutions.
• Working with our team ensures you receive high-quality video content.
• Our video team provides guidance on best practices for video strategy across a variety of platforms.
• We are experienced scriptwriters and storytellers that can help ensure the story you want to share is done in a powerful, concise and visual way.  

• Please allow our team 2-3 business days to respond to your videographers request.  
• Due to our schedules, we highly encourage requests be made at least 1 month before the proposed shoot date.  
• Final delivery of video content varies depending on the scope of the project. For high level production projects, (commercials or scripted videos) our team requires roughly two months to complete. For more simple videos that have less than two subjects and minimal B-ROLL shoots, our team requires roughly one month to complete. Specific deadlines will be set based on the overall scope of the project (how long it will take to edit the amount of content) and deadlines associated with the overall project (such as editorial, print or Public Relation deadlines)   

Faculty and Staff. Official student organizations may also access USD’s videographers services.  

• Video requests that meet the strategic mission of the university and can be fulfilled by USD’s video team will be provided at no cost. 
• If external videographers are recommended, they will provide an hourly rate based on the scope of the request.
