Issue/Question

My OneDrive has a red x on it. Are my documents not syncing?

When opening my OneDrive/files from my computer, everything is a red X or disconnected

Environment

  • OneDrive

Cause

Sync issues

Resolution

  1. Ensure computer has a good network connection
  2. Click the  OneDrive icon in the lower right of your screen
  3. Click the banner that says There is a sync issue in OneDrive
  4. Click the file that is listed
  5. Choose the resolution options that you wish to use
    Note: If the above steps do not resolve the issue continue steps below
  6. Right click OneDrive icon in lower right of screen
  7. Click Settings
  8. Click Account
  9. Click Unlink this PC
  10. Close window
  11. Follow Uninstall a Windows Program to uninstall OneDrive
  12. Follow Installing Microsoft Office 365
  13. Download the OneDrive for Business Sync Client
  14. Click downloaded file to install 
  15. Click the OneDrive icon
  16. Click Sign in
  17. Type your USD email address
  18. Click Next
    Note: When you sign in, OneDrive will prompt you that a folder already exists: select Use this folder
  19. Wait for files to sync

If any folders have a

  1. Right click the folder
  2. Click Always keep on this device
  3. Wait for Sync to finish
    Note:  You may have to rename the folder(s)
