Registering Gaming Systems, TVs, and other Smart Devices to Wired Internet

Summary

Gaming and DVR systems are allowed in the residence hall. USD's wireless network does not support gaming. you will need to use an Ethernet cable to connect.

Solution

Register your wired device

  1. Login to smartdevices.usd.edu using full email address first.last@usd.edu or first.last@coyotes.usd.edu
  2. Click Add 
  3. Enter Device name 
  4. Enter mac address (format - xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx) See tips above for steps on how to find your mac address
  5. Enter Description (optional)
  6. Click submit 
  7. Verify that the device appears in the list of registered devices
  8. Connect the registered device to the wired Ethernet port 

Troubleshooting wired Connection 

  1. Try a different Ethernet cable
  2. Once connected devices are automatically filtered through our network and will work without any set up by ITS
  3. Try a different Ethernet cable
  4. Try connecting a laptop to the Ethernet port
    • If your laptop connects it most likely means the other device has issues.  Please contact the manufacturer
  5. If your device is not able to connect please submit the following information online to the ITS Service Desk
    • Device Type
    • Device Mac Address
    • Residence Hall location and room number
    • Contact phone number

Cause

Need to connect a smart device to the residence halls network, USD's wireless network does not support gaming you will need to use an Ethernet cable to connect.
