Unable to open Outlook

The icon in the lower right hand corner indicates being disconnected

Error: cannot open Microsoft Outlook. Cannot open outlook window

Error:  The operation failed due to an installation problem.  Restart Outlook and try again.  If the problem persists, please reinstall

Resolution

  1. Restart Outlook in safe mode
    1. Right-click
    2. Click Run
    3. Type Outlook /safe
    4. Click OK
  2. Repair Outlook
  3. Recreate Outlook Profile
    1. Click
    2. Type Control Panel
    3. Click Control Panel
    4. Select Small Icons from View by: drop down
    5. Click Mail
    6. Click Show Profiles
    7. Click Add
    8. Type a different profile name from existing
    9. Click OK
    10. Click Finish
    11. Select new profile name from Always use this profile
    12. Click OK
  4. Remove folders from Deleted Items
    1. Log into account on mail.usd.edu
    2. Click beside Deleted Items
    3. Delete any folders inside Deleted Items
  5. Re-install Office
