Issue/Question

Accidentally deleted a file that I need to retrieve

I saved over a file and I need it to be recovered

Missing a file from X drive

Can you recreate a folder in a shared drive

Environment

  • Network Shared drive (X drive)
  • Microsoft Windows
  • MacOS
  • \\SDGS01\Shared

Resolution

Note: If using a Mac, use remote.usd.edu and then follow the steps below

  1. Right-click on the folder that contained the deleted information
  2. Click Properties
  3. Click Previous Versions
    Note: You will be presented with a list of folders sorted by Date modified
  4. Double click on the most recent folder that should contain the deleted information
    Note: A second File Explorer window will open
  5. Right click on the deleted file
  6. Click Copy
  7. Close the File Explorer window
  8. Click OK
  9. Right click in the original folder
  10. Click Paste
  11. If you are unable to copy the file to the original location because of permission problems, please contact the Service Desk with the following information
    1. Name
    2. Phone number
    3. File name and location
