Receiving Unwanted Popups

Issue/Question

Got the message that the computer detected viruses.

Reading online and then heard a voice saying to call Microsoft

Accessing a website and received a security alert and message - Computer was locked up and would need to call their IT number

Pop up ad appears and I can't close out of it.

Environment

• Website pop-ups
• Windows OS
• USD Workstation 

Cause

Notification permissions have been enabled for a website

Resolution

1. Remove unwanted site notification permissions for unknown sites
2. Clear Cache and Cookies
3. Close the web browser
4. Run a Windows Defender Scan
   1. Click  Start
   2. Open  Settings
   3. Click  Privacy & Security
   4. Click Windows Security
   5. Click Open Windows Security
   6. Click Virus and threat protection
   7. Click Quick scan
