Creating Batch File for Network Drive on Computer

Summary

How to create a batch file for a shared drive on a laptop

Body

Issue/Question

I have not been able to connect to the shared drive across campus on my HP Elitebook laptop.

I’m told it is possible to have a link on my desktop that should help me with this access. Please advise.

Environment

  • Notepad
  • Windows

Resolution

Note:  To map to the network share you need to be connected to VPN if working remotely

  1. Open Notepad
  2. Type net use X: (or preferred drive letter)
  3. Press Spacebar once
  4. Type \\usd.local\network _sharename (ie:   \\usd.local\storage\student_services)
  5. Click File
  6. Select Save As
  7. Choose Desktop
  8. Type Network Share.bat
  9. Click Save
  10. Double click the file you just created
  11. Open File Explorer to see if you are now connected to network drive
