Question
- What is my building's evacuation plan?
- What is the severe weather plan for East Hall?
Answer
Evacuation Plan
In the event that East Hall must be evacuated, the following procedures shall be followed.
- Upon activation of the fire alarm, all persons in East Hall will immediately begin exiting the building through the nearest available exit route.
- Prior to leaving the room, any open fires, hot plates, coffee pots, or similar equipment should be turned off.
- Electrical equipment that cannot be left unattended for prolonged periods should also be turned off prior to exiting the room.
- Designated staff from each floor will quickly survey the floor to assure that the evacuation is in progress or completed. The following staff have been designated for each floor:
- Basement - Silvana Rosenfeld
- 1st Floor - Nicole Soloman
- 2nd Floor - Secretary and/or Clayton Lehmann
- 3rd Floor - Secretary and/or David Posthumus
- All persons in East Hall will meet on the south side of Old Main. This will allow a quick assessment for any missing persons and avoid interference with emergency responders.
- In the event of weather conditions where shelter is desired, please go inside Aalfs Auditorium.
Severe Weather Plan
In the event of severe weather alerts such as tornado or severe thunderstorm, persons in East Hall should immediately proceed to the basement of the building using the fastest route available. In the event that the basement is not available or cannot be reached safely, all persons in East Hall should immediately proceed to the first floor central hallway away from doors and windows.
Designated staff from each floor will quickly survey the floor to assure that the evacuation is in progress or has been completed. The following staff have been designated for each floor:
- Basement - Silvana Rosenfeld
- 1st Floor - Nicole Solomon
- 2nd Floor - Secretary and/or Clayton Lehmann
- 3rd Floor - Secretary and/or David Posthumus
Dakota Hall and East Hall are supervised by the same fire alarm system, but will not activate together. However, if the alarm activates in either building, occupants should strongly consider activating the alarm for both buildings depending on the circumstances.
