Answer

This is a list of guidelines developed to assist in case of an emergency or natural disaster.  Please familiarize yourself with these guidelines and safe areas in the building, as well as emergency information on the USD Web site.

Evacuation Plan

In the event the Davidson Building must be evacuated, the following procedures shall be followed:

  1. When the evacuation signal is sounded, all non-essential personnel in the Davidson Building will immediately leave the building through the nearest available exit.
  2. Designated personnel from each floor will quickly survey the floor to ensure that evacuation is in progress.
The following persons are designated as floor monitors:
    • Basement: FM Supervisors will verify by radio that occupants are not in the building
    • First Floor UPD offices: University Police Dept. (UPD) Dispatcher
    • First Floor FM offices: FM Supervisors will verify by radio that occupants are not in the building
    • Second Floor: University Police Dept. (UPD) Dispatcher via radio
  3. All non-essential personnel from the Davidson Building will assemble under the east (exterior) portico of the I.D. Weeks Library. This will allow quick assessment for any missing persons and avoid interference with emergency responders.
  4. All personnel are asked to remain in the safe area until released.

Severe Weather Plan

In the event of severe weather alerts such as tornado or severe thunderstorm, all non-essential personnel in the Davidson Building will immediately proceed to the east side of the Davidson Building basement using the fastest route available.

  1. Floor monitors, as designated above, will quickly survey the floor to ensure that evacuation is in progress or has been completed.
    1. The FM office area and the HVAC conference room (in the east basement) are the safe areas and should be large enough to accommodate all building occupants.
    2. Avoid blocking the stairwell.
  2. All personnel are asked to remain in the safe area until released.
