Question
- What is my building's evacuation plan?
- What is the severe weather plan for the MUC?
Answer
Evacuation Plan
In the event that the Muenster University Center Building (MUC) must be evacuated, the following procedures shall be followed.
- Upon activation of the fire alarm, all persons within the MUC will immediately begin exiting the building through the nearest available exit route.
- Elevators should NOT be used during an evacuation event unless necessary for the evacuation of a disabled/handicapped person.
- Prior to leaving the room, any open fires, hot plates, coffee pots, or kitchen equipment should be turned off.
- Electrical equipment that cannot be left unattended for prolonged periods should also be turned off prior to exiting the room.
- Designated staff from each area will quickly survey the floor to assure that evacuation is in progress or completed. The following staff have been designated for each area during normal working day hours:
- First Floor – Director of the MUC, Programming Coordinator, Spirit Teams coordinator, or Information Desk Student Staff
- Second Floor – Assistant to the Dean of Students, Accountant Assistant, or Associate Dean of Students
- 1st Floor Kitchen – Senior Food Service Director, Executive Chef, and both Assistant Food Service Directors
- Charlie’s Bookstore and Fan Shop – Manager on Duty
- UPD will clear the building after 5PM on normal working days and all hours of the day when staff is not working their normal working days.
- All persons within the MUC will convene on the lawn to the Southeast or the west lawn. This will allow quick assessment for any missing persons and avoid interference with the emergency responders.
- In the event of weather conditions where shelter is desired, please move inside I.D. Weeks Library or under the east portico of the I.D. Weeks Library for comfort and safety.
- Building occupants will not re-enter the MUC until permission is given by UPD or the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ).
Severe Weather Plan
In the event of severe weather alerts such as a tornado warning, civil defense siren, or severe thunderstorm, persons within the MUC should immediately proceed to the 1st Floor restrooms, the Aramark offices or any windowless rooms on the first floor. If too many people are in the building to fit in the back hallway offices and restrooms, they should proceed to the first floor of I.D. Weeks Library.
- Designated staff from each area will quickly survey the floor to assure that evacuation is in progress or has been completed. The following staff have been designated for each area during normal working day hours:
- First Floor – Director of the MUC and/or Information Desk Staff
- Second Floor – Assistant to the Dean of Students and Associate Dean of Students
- 1st Floor Kitchen - Senior Food Service Director, Executive Chef, and both Assistant Food Service Directors
- Charlie’s Bookstore and Fan Shop – Manager on Duty
- UPD will clear the building after 5PM on normal working days and all hours of the day when staff is not working their normal working days
