PowerPoint Etiquette

Question

What is proper PowerPoint presentation etiquette?

Answer

Do:

  • Take advantage of the individual slide format by keeping the message of each slide clear and concise
  • Keep slides organized in a logical and connected order.  Each slide should flow smoothly from one to the next
  • Use bulleted lists to convey groups of ideas
  • Place text and graphics on the slides in their order of importance

Don’t:

  • Use color schemes that may not be practical for the viewing and absorption of information
  • Add too much animation and multimedia content; your audience will be distracted by the presentation and will not learn from it
  • Put every detail on one slide – slides should be used to enhance the lecture, not take the place of it
  • Use multiple backgrounds throughout the show.  Keep the same background throughout your presentation
