How to reset USB drivers in Device Manager when a USB mouse, keyboard, or other peripheral is not connecting

Issue/Question

Unable to get mouse and keyboard (external wireless) to work

USB printer and scanner won't connect to computer

Environment

  • Windows 10

Resolution

  1. Try reseating the cables
    1. Unplug each USB cable
    2. Plug each cable back in firmly
  2. If issue persists
    1. Right-click
    2. Click Device Manager
    3. Click next to Universal Serial Bus controllers
    4. Click on each entry and press Delete on the keyboard
    5. Restart the computer
