Enabling Respondus Monitor in D2L

Body

Question

How do I enable Respondus Monitor for a D2L exam?

Answer

To enable Monitor, click on Require Respondus LockDown Browser for this exam

This will prompt you to choose which Proctoring option you would like to

  • Don't require proctoring for this exam
  • Require Respondus Monitor (automated proctoring) for this exam - Students are recorded during the exam. Suspicious events are flagged, and the instructor can view the video after the exam is submitted. Faculty have the option to select from the following options when using Respondus monitor:
    • Webcam Only - Recordings will only include the student's face and environment
    • Webcam + Screen - Recordings will include the student's face/environment and their screen during the exam
    • Screen Only - Recordings will only include the student's screen during the exam
  • Allow instructor live proctoring for this exam (via Zoom, Teams, etc) - the instructor watches students remotely during an online test. This feature requires the use of a video conference system such as Zoom or MS Teams. Students are not recorded, and the instructor is not alerted to suspicious activity.

Next select the items to be included in the Startup Sequence, which includes the steps a student must complete prior to the start of an exam.  Clicking Preview will allow you to see what the step will look like as the student will see it. Notice each step must be fulfilled prior to taking the exam.

Next, select the Face Detection Options preferred for the exam. Both boxes are checked by default as the recommended setting.

Advanced Settings: These allow additional features that work under Respondus Monitor and include the follwowing options:

  • Allow use of an iPad for this exam - allows students to complete the assessment using an iPad
  • Allow switching to another application during the assessment - allows students to use an appilcation version of either Microsoft Excel or Microsoft Word during the exam
  • Allow this exam to additionally be delivered in a proctored lab - allows students the option of taking the exam with a proctor (e.g., the USD Testing Center). NOTE: If selecting this option, please ensure there is a password in the Password Settings section of the LockDown Browser Settings.
  • Enable "Show Your Work" step at end of exam - allows students to show pages of work at the end using photos taken with their webcam. This work can be reviewed by faculty when grading exams.

Second Camera: This options requires students to use a second camera in addition to the webcam on their computer. NOTE: Students will need to be notified in advance and provide explicit instructions for how to set up the second camera if faculty elect this option.
