Issue/Question
How do I make an accessible PDF from Google Doc
Environment
- Google Docs
- Grackle Docs for Google
Cause
Google Docs has a built-in automatic check accessibility feature available through an add-on called Grackle Docs.
All accessibility issues need to be checked before exporting to PDF. This is largely a manual process.
There are two primary ways to generate an accessible PDF from a Google Doc. 1) download the Google Doc to an MS Word file and use the MS Word “Check Accessibility” tool, or 2) Use the Grackle Docs automated accessibility checker available in Google Docs.
Resolution
- Download the Google Doc as a word document
- Click File
- Click Download
- Click Microsoft Word
- Run Check Accessibility feature in word to resolve all errors
- Click Save As
