Message When Opening Excel Spreadsheet

Issue/Question

i keep getting a message when I open a particular Excel spreadsheet

Error: This workbook contains links to one or more external sources that could be unsafe.  If you trust the links, update them to get the latest data.  Otherwise, you can keep working with the data you have.

Environment

• Microsoft Excel 365

Cause

Excel spreadsheet contains link(s) to external sources

Resolution

1. If familiar with the external source and want links updated, click Update
2. If not familiar with the external source and do not want links updated, click Don't Update
3. To remove external links
   1. Open spreadsheet in Excel
   2. Click Data
   3. Click Edit Links
   4. Click on the link you want to remove
   5. Click Break Link
   6. Repeat steps 7 and 8 to remove additional links, if desired
   7. Click Close
