Cause

Coursepacks are generally custom compilations of academic materials (collected articles from textbooks, journals, lab manuals, syllabi and other sources) put together by the instructor. Typically they are less expensive than textbooks.

Resolution

  1. The USD Online Bookstore run by Akademos offers a Coursepack Tool that can be used by Instructors
  2. A visual explanation is available as an attachment or follow the video below
  3. Login to the faculty section at usd.textbookx.com using your university credentials
  4. Click 
  5. Click the course you want to create a coursepack for
  6. Under Select Materials, click Add Coursepack
    Note:
    you will be directed to the Coursepack Creator
  7. Edit the Coverpage adding
    1. Course Name
    2. Course Code
    3. Semester 
    4. Year
  8. Click Next Step
  9. Design the cover by choosing:
    1. Background color
    2. Binding
    3. Cover Presets
    4. Text Color
  10. Click Next Step
  11. Next select materials by searching for a book by title or ISBN and/or uploading a file
  12. If searching for a book, select the book from the list in the drop down menu
  13. Once selected, enter the chapter, article or page range to be included
  14. Once finished, click Add Source
  15. Next to Attach File, click Upload to select files
    Note: Files can include word documents, PDFs, PowerPoint Slides, etc.
  16. Once the file loads, click Add Source
  17. In special instructions, type any instructions you may have
  18. Repeat the steps until all materials are added
  19. All items will be shown on the left-hand side of the screen
  20. Items can be reorganized by dragging and dropping 
  21. Once all items are added, complete the further details
    1. Expected class size
    2. Printing specifications
    3. Professor contact information
    4. Any special instructions
  22. Click Create Order
  23. Print or save the confirmation page for future reference
  24. Once the course pack is completed, Akademos will send copyright requests to the publisher or copyright holder
  25. Approval must be granted for articles to be included, fees are the discretion of the copyright holder
  26. Once copyright approval is granted for all materials, a quote will be put together and sent for your approval
    Note: Please allow up to 6 weeks for the copyright approval process
  27. Once approved, it usually takes about 1-2 days for the course pack to be printed
  28. Upon completion, coursepacks are available to students for shipment or will be available for immediate download
