Requesting Link in Email be Classified as Safe

Summary

Requesting classification of a link from a campus partner as safe is not necessary

Body

Issue/Question

Please reclassify the link in the attached email as “safe”.

Email links are legitimate, from a known source, and need to be re-classed so that they are usable

Environment

  • Outlook
  • Safe Links

Cause

Safe Links rewrites links in email following the pattern https://...safelinks.protection.outlook.com...

Resolution

  1. Safe Links rarely blocks access to legitimate web sites
  2. It is not necessary to classify a link in order for it to be usable
  3. If the URL is difficult to read try hovering over the re-written link to see Original URL
    Note
This hover feature works best in the latest version of Office 365
  4. If a legitimate web site is blocked, please contact the Service Desk with the following information:
    1. Email message containing a blocked URL
    2. URL of the legitimate web site
