How do I back up my BitLocker recovery key

Environment

  • Windows
  • BitLocker

Cause

The BitLocker recovery key is unknown or not saved

Resolution

  1. Click on
  2. Type bitlocker
  3. Click Manage BitLocker
  4. If Windows (C:) BitLocker off is displayed, skip the remaining steps
  5. If BitLocker is turned on, click on Back up your recovery key
  6. Select an option for backing up your recovery key
    Note: you can back up the recovery key to a flash drive, cloud account, or print it out
