Areas of the laptop are very hot to the touch

Environment

  • Apple MacBook

Cause

  1. Application using a high amount of resources
  2. Cooling fan malfunctioning
  3. Air openings blocked while using

Resolution

  1. Make sure vents on outside of Macbook are not blocked
  2. Open Activity Monitor and quit any task using a high amount of CPU
  3. If you you are still having the issue, receive a cooling fan error message, or the cooling fan is making a loud noise, contact the Service Desk with:
  • Your name
  • Location
  • Laptop NI tag number
