Issue/Question
What are the guest user account policies
I would like to have a guest account
I need an account for the library computers
Environment
- guest.usd.local
- Library guest access
Resolution
Use
Guest users are allowed computer access for library research, academic purposes, and other computer work. Guests shall not use computers for video games or other purposes which are not academically productive.
Guest users are subject to the Acceptable Use Policy as well as the Acceptable Use of Information Technology Systems policies set forth in the South Dakota Board of Regents Policy Manual, 7:1.5-7.
Guest users must ask Lab Consultants to enable their accounts. Guest users are allowed an initial access period of 2 hours. If the guest needs more time, the Lab Consultant may give the guest 2 more hours of access if the library is not busy or if there is no “waiting line” for computers. Students, faculty, and staff who need computer access should be considered before allowing more time for guest users.
Children are welcome to the University Libraries; however, we do not assume responsibility for the safety of children left unattended and do not provide a monitoring service. Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied at all times by a guest account-bearing adult who is responsible for supervising the child’s behavior, including the child’s use of the internet. Children 12-15 years of age may have guest accounts created if they are accompanied by a parent or guardian at signup. Parents or legal guardians of minor children must assume responsibility for their children’s use of the internet via the computers. Children ages 16 and up may have their own guest account created and do not require adult supervision.
