An employee wants to know if they are eligible for longevity pay and how much they will be paid for longevity pay

Resolution

Longevity pay is an annual lump-sum payment provided to eligible South Dakota state employees in recognition of years of service. Longevity compensation is governed by SDCL 3-8-13 and is paid separately from an employee's regular salary

Eligibility Requirements

1. Employees must be employed in a position designated as eligible for longevity pay
   1. Employees must be in a non-faculty benefit eligible position
   2. Faculty positions are not eligible for longevity pay
2. Employees must have completed at least seven (7) years of employment with the State of South Dakota
3. Prior qualifying state service may be counted toward longevity, subject to applicable state rules and documentation requirements

Longevity Pay Amount

1. Longevity pay is issued annually as a lump-sum payment based on an employee's completed years of qualifying service
2. The complete longevity pay schedule is maintained by the Bureau of Human Resources and Administration (BHRA). Employees can view the current compensation information and longevity pay schedule on the BHRA Compensation Information page
3. Eligible employees receive one longevity payment per fiscal year
