What is the USD Graduate Council?
Answer
- The Graduate Council is the principal legislative body of the Graduate School. Its purpose is to consider, enact and implement policies and rules related to graduate education and research
- This purpose is fulfilled, in part, through the following responsibilities:
- To initiate Graduate School policies and to act on questions affecting those policies.
- To establish rules governing graduate programs.
- To submit recommendations about proposals for adopting new courses, curricula and programs involving graduate credit or the altering or abolishing existing policies to the Academic Vice President.
- To submit recommendations adopting or abolishing academic degrees administered by the Graduate School to the President.
- To encourage and stimulate scholarly research and creative activity.
- To determine criteria for graduate faculty standing and nominate faculty for appointment to graduate faculty status to the President.
